Chennai, May. 12 (PTI): Over 100 journalists and newspaper employees courted arrest here today while attempting to defy the prohibitory orders to take out a rally from Dinakaran office here, seeking the arrest of the "real culprits" behind the violence at the Tamil daily's office in Madurai on May 9.
The arrested included R Rangaraj, President, Madras Reporters Guild, Babu Jayakumar, President, Madras Union of Journalists, D Ravindaradoss, President, Tamil Nadu Union of Journalists and Satyalaya Ramakrishna, President, All Media Journalists association.
Journalists from various media organisations had gathered in front of the Dinakaran office to take out a procession to the office of the Director General of Police.
They wanted to hand over a memorandum demanding transfer of police officials in the southern districts of the state to facilitate a 'free and fair enquiry' into the incident which led to the loss of three lives, besides a departmental enquiry into whether there was any laxity on the part of the police.
They also demanded that the names and points mentioned in the complaint given by Dinkaran's News Editor Muthupandiyan should be included in the FIR registered by the police.
