ISLAMABAD: Strongly condemning the show cause notice issued by Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) to Private TV channel, Alliance for the Restoration of Democracy (ARD) has termed it attack on electronic media.
ARD has submitted adjournment motion in the National Assembly to discuss the issue in the House. Parliamentary Secretary of Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarian Azhar Amrohi submitted the motion.
The adjournment motion was signed by members National Assembly of ARD including Chaudhry Manzoor Ahmad, Khawaja Asif, Qamar-u-Zaman Qiara, Khurshid Ahmad Shah, Nahid Khan, Zamarud Khan, Aitzaz Ahsan, Fozia Wahab.
The adjournment motion strongly condemned the show cause notice of PEMRA and termed it attack on electronic media.
The motion said the notice issued to private Channel because it was airing talks shows and programmes regarding repetition of Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry in various cities of the country.
Others channels are also telecasting such type of programmes but PEMRA has taken no action against them, it added. It is a matter of concern should be discussed in the House.
Meanwhile, Barrister Chaudhry Aitzaz Hassan has strongly condemned the show cause notice issued by Pakistan Electronic Media and Regularity Authority (PEMRA) to a private TV channel for airing news, talk shows and other programmes on the current judicial crisis.
According to the notice that TV Channel had violated the PEMRA ordinance in its news, talks shows and programmes on an issue pending with the Supreme Judicial Council.
Lawyer of Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Barrister Aitzaz Hassan added PEMRA should not bow down before Government pressure and must work with independence and self-determination.
No unconstitutional and illegal sentence, programme and news items were aired by a private television, he made it clear while talking to media men outside the Supreme Court on Monday. Justice (Retd) Tariq Mehmood and Barrister Gohar Ali Khan were present on the occasion.
According to Government claim, Aitzaz Hassan said media is enjoying complete freedom in the country then PEMRA should avoid curbing media freedom.
BBC and others Channels were lively airing programme on the current judicial crisis but PEMRA has never issued notice to them, he observed.
On the occasion, Justice (Retd) Tariq Mehmood questioned that mostly all channels were lively telecasting the ceremony of Chief Justice, whereas PEMRA issued notice to only one why.
In order to suppress the ongoing movement of lawyer, he said Government in harassing media men and TV channels.
