Mumbai scribe sues Google for defamatory blog contents

Mumbai, Feb 25: In perhaps the first-of-its-kind, a journalist has sued popular internet search engine "Google" for hosting three blogs, which carry content allegedly defaming him, in the Bombay High Court.

Gurbir Singh, a journalist, has filed the case against Google over three blogs: mediamamu.Blogspot.Com, mediamalice.Blogspot.Com and indianmediareview.Blogspot.Com.

Creators of these blogs and authors of the articles on them are not known.

Singh, however, knows that these blogs are hosted by Google and hence has demanded Rs 10 lakh in damages from the company, his lawyer H M Seerwai said.

Justice D K Deshmukh, before whom the matter came up last month, has temporarily restrained Google from allowing these blogs to publish anything defamatory about Singh.

Singh has also demanded that Google reveal the names of creators of these blogs. The company is yet to file a reply.
