Journalists, media workers hold demo for new wage board

New Delhi, Dec. 14 (PTI): A large number of journalists and workers of media organisations today staged a demonstration in front of the Labour Ministry here demanding immediate constitution of a new wage board.

The demonstration was organised by the Confederation of Newspaper and News Agency Organisations.

M S Yadav, Joint Secretary of the Confederation, addressing the protestors, said "If the government does not take steps towards fulfilling our demands, we will intensify our agitation."

He reminded the UPA government, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, and Congress president, Sonia Gandhi, of the promises made with regard to setting up of a new wage board.

The confederation leaders also raised the issue of "illegal" transfer of shares of the news agency 'UNI' as well as the dismissal of hundreds of employees of a prominent newspaper in Delhi.
