Police forces of Puntland Regional State of Somalia, which controls the northeast regions of Somalia, yesterday arrested online journalist Hussein Yasin Godegode in Galka'yo town of Mudug region. Mr. Hussein works for a website called Idamaale.com, which features news and comments across Somalia.
The reason of this arrest reportedly came out after the journalist wrote critical reports on Mudug region, which infuriated Puntland authorities, as said by reliable sources in Galka'yo. The arrest was ordered by Sa'id Mohammed Ali, an official from the Puntland ministry of finance, according to Idamaale.com.
"We strongly denounce the arrest of Mr. Husein Yasin, and plea to authorities to release him immediately" said Omar Faruk Osman, the NUSOJ Secretary General.
