Job cuts, prompted by dwindling margins being experienced by newspaper industry in the US and UK, could prove to be a boon for the Indian graphic designer firms set to grab a sizeable chunk of the increased offshoring, a research study says, according to the Press Trust of India (PTI).
A substantial drop in the advertisement revenue of newspapers in the US and UK due to tremendous increase in on-line ads following growth and reach of Internet has resulted in a significant job cut in the industry as it tries to rationalise its operations with outsourcing options, the study, conducted by the city-based ValueNotes Database, a business intelligence and research company, has said.
Indian firms operating in graphic design sector and BPOs in publication segment stand to gain nearly $ 35 million in 2008 out of the estimated $ 3.5 bn newspaper outsourcing market, and the share could go up to $ 120 million by 2012, according to the findings based on interviews with leading vendors, the study says.
