Radio Netherlands journalist arrested in Israel

Radio Netherlands Worldwide journalist Abir Sarras was arrested at Tel Aviv airport on Sunday night. She was told that she would not be permitted to enter Israel and that she would be put on a plane back to the Netherlands, the radio station reported.

Palestinian-born Sarras, who holds a Dutch passport, had been planning to produce a series of reports about Israel's 60 year existence. Sarras used her mobile phone to tell colleagues that she was amazed by what had happened but that otherwise her situation is good. She said that her treatment by the airport police had been "rude".

Palestinians can only enter Israel, according to Israeli authorities, via the border crossing between Jordan and the West Bank. Most Palestinians may also not enter Israel without special permission, something Sarras did not possess.
