NEW DELHI: The Delhi police on Tuesday filed the charge sheet against the reporter, Prakash Singh, who had allegedly carried out a fake sting operation in which a female school teacher was purportedly shown to be involved in a prostitution racket. Prakash’s co-accused Virender Arora has also been named in the charge sheet.
In the charge sheet filed before Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Alok Agarwal, the Delhi police have said Singh, who used to work for Hindi news channel Live India and was later terminated, and Arora had conspired against the teacher to settle their personal scores with her.
Prakash and Arora have been charged under Section 420 (cheating), 468 (forgery for the purpose of cheating), 471 (using forged documents) and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code.
The telecast of the sting on August 30, in which the teacher was alleged to be involved in supplying girl students from her school for prostitution, had led to violence outside her school on Asaf Ali Road in Central Delhi. The mob had also assaulted the teacher. The police had arrested the teacher on the basis of the sting.
Later, the police told the court that they did not have any evidence against her. The court had then granted her bail saying she was not an accused but a victim of the sting. The police subsequently arrested Prakash and Arora.
