N Ravi, Editor of the Hindu elected PTI chairman

New Delhi, Aug. 21 (PTI): N Ravi, Editor of The Hindu, was unanimously elected as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Press Trust of India here today.

Ravi, a former Washington correspondent of the newspaper and its Editor since 1991, succeeds R Lakshmipathy of Dinamalar. He has served as the PTI Chairman earlier also.

Prof E V Chitnis, an eminent physicist, was elected the Vice Chairman succeeding Ravi. Prof Chitnis is one of the key public interest Directors on the PTI Board, the other two being former Chief Justice of India Justice S P Bharucha and eminent jurist Fali S. Nariman.

The election of the Chairman and Vice Chairman took place after the company's 59th Annual General Meeting at which Hormusji N Cama of Bombay Samachar was elected as Director.

Other Directors representing newspapers on the Board are Philip Mathew (Malayala Manorama), Vineet Kumar Jain (Times of India), Shekhar Gupta (Indian Express), M P Veerendrakumar (Mathrubhumi), Aveek Kumar Sarkar (Ananda Bazaar Patrika), Shant Kumar (Deccan Herald), Vijay Kumar Chopra (Hind Samachar), Mahendra Mohan Gupta (Jagran Prakashan) and Praveenchandra Gandhi (Janmabhoomi).
