The Independent plans facsimile edition in India

MUMBAI: Newspaper publisher Jagran Prakashan Ltd said on Wednesday it had agreed with Ireland's Independent News Media Plc to publish the facsimile edition of Independent newspaper from New Delhi.

The Indian company has sought the Information and Broadcasting Ministry's approval for this, Jagran's Chief Financial Officer RK Agarwal said.

The company hopes to obtain the approval in a month, he said.

“We shouldn't take more than two to three weeks after that to bring out the edition,” he added.

Independent News holds a 20.8 percent stake in Jagran, which publishes the Hindi daily Dainik Jagran.

Last month Independent had approached the Indian market regulator to buy a further 1 to 3 percent in Jagran.
