STOCKHOLM, March 17 (Xinhuanet) -- Danish Islamite are to refer cartoon case to the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights after Danish negative ruling of the case.
The Danish Islamic Community organizations made the decision on Friday responding to the ruling, made by Danish State Attorney Henning Fode on Thursday, which said the publication of the prophet cartoons did not offend Danish blasphemy and racism laws.
The cartoons were first published by the Danish newspaper, Jyllands-Posten, last September and republished in some other European newspapers later, which sparked wide protests in the Islamic world.
"The UN is the natural place for us to file our complaint," Islamic Community spokesman Kasem Said Ahmad was quoted by the Ritzau national news agency as saying on Friday.
According to Islamic tradition, realistic depictions of prophets are prohibited and caricatures of them are considered profane.
