KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 3 (Bernama) -- The NAM News Network (NNN) will be launched in the first quarter of next year, said Information Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Kadir Sheikh Fadzir.
He said the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) which had been entrusted by the NAM (Non-Alignment Movement) to make it a reality, was working hard towards that deadline.
"God willing, it will be launched in February or March," he told reporters after launching the "Jom Fiesta 2005" carnival organised by Utusan Karya Sdn Bhd at the Permaisuri Lake Garden in Bandar Tun Razak, here.
Bernama was handling the appointment of manpower to operate the news network, he said when asked on the matter.
NNN's establishment was agreed upon during the Conference of Ministers of Information of Non-Aligned Countries (Cominac) VI here from Nov 18 to 22.
It is a news exchange mechanism using the internet aimed at enabling NAM member countries to disseminate news according to their own perspective and promoting freer flow of news and information among them and other countries.
Earlier, Abdul Kadir called on media organisations to hold more programmes that could bring media practitioners like journalists and editors closer to the people.
He commended the organiser of today's event for their initiative towards that objective.
