Member countries of the Non- Aligned Movement (NAM) should stand up strongly against the bias given by Western media, Cuban Ambassador to Malaysia Pedro Monzon Barata said in KUALA LUMPUR.
Cuba and the Cuban people have always been portrayed by the Western press in a negative light while foreign visitors, when setting foot on this land, will find a different picture and expose those lies, Monzon was quoted as saying by the Bernama news agency on Friday.
On the upcoming sixth Conference of Ministers of Information of Non-Aligned Countries (COMINAC) to be held in Kuala Lumpur, the ambassador said Cuba viewed COMINAC as a significant agenda, especially in ensuring a fair and free flow of information.
At the conference, Malaysia will propose setting up a NAM News Network (NNN), an Internet-based pool of news from participating NAM member countries for redistribution to interested parties.
According to local press reports, the mechanism, with "news written through the eyes of the third world countries," will be an alternative to international news agencies.
The ministerial meeting of the COMINAC will open next Monday while senior officials will finalize the arrangements during this Saturday and Sunday.
