Eminent journalist and editorial advisor of the New Indian Express T J S George has been selected for this year's C H Mohammad Koya Journalism Award for his outstanding contribution to the field.
The announcement was made by CH Journalism Trust member and Kerala Public Works Ministe M K Muneer at a press conference here today.
George been chosen from among a panel of 25 distinguished persons from different fields by a jury comprising The Hindu Editor-in-Chief N Ram, former Chief Editor of Deshabhimani P Govinda Pillai, well known journalist B P R Bhaskar and writer Paul Zacharia.
The award, jointly instituted by the CH Mohammadkoya Trust and Calicut Press Club, comprises a cash prize of Rs 55,555, a citation and a plaque. It would presented to him at a function by the month end or early next month, he said, adding, the exact date, convenient to the awardee, would be decided later.
George, also the chairman and trustee of the Asian Institute of Journalism, had started his career as a reporter with the Free Press Journal, said a release issued by the Press Club.
During his long and distinguished career, George had also worked with Search Light, Hong Kong-based Far Eastern Economic Review and Asia Week, it said.
Krishna Menon - A Biography, The Life and Times of Nargis, Revolt in Mintanose, The Rise of Islam in Philippines Politics, Liquan Singapore, Biography of Pothen Joseph, M S - A Life in Music and The First Refugee of Scoundrels - Politics in Modern India, were some of the books authored by him, the release added.
Earlier winners of the award were cartoonist Gopikrishan, Dinakaran Kambilath, both Mathrubhumi, and eminent columnist Praful Bidwai.
