Stung by the sting. A group of Mumbai reporters found out much to their dismay that in the age of exposes, some operations can backfire.
Early on Saturday morning, two journalists from BAG Films, a TV news agency, entered the premises of the Mulund fire station, hoping to catch firemen sleeping on duty. But they found the marshals were not only up but alert enough to spot trespassers.
The journalists fled, leaving their bag behind. When they returned to the scene with a cop to claim the bag, the irate firemen thrashed one of the reporters in the presence of the policeman.
A fireman, present at the time of the incident, said, "At 3.00 am, a Maruti van stopped outside the station. "Two people got down, one had a camera in hand. They sneaked in and started filming the area.
"The cameraman came close to the duty officer's room. Our sentry spotted him and asked for his identity, which the latter did not reveal." The sentry then raised an alarm, alerting 20 to 25 firemen on duty. They rushed out and on seeing the cameraman, became suspicious, a fireman stated.
"We were wondering why someone would film our premises in the middle of the night. When we rushed towards him, he ran. "The journalist, who was holding a bag, also fled. But in the melee he dropped the bag. The two then got into a waiting Maruti van and sped off," he stated.
