A meeting in India has attracted a large delegation of Pakistani journalists, with the aim of promoting more contact and cooperation with their Indian colleagues.
The press clubs of Chandigarh, India, and Lahore, Pakistan, organized the conference, scheduled to begin January 6. About 70 Pakistani journalists made the trip Chandigarh, the Press Trust of India (PTI) reported.
Ramesh Vinayak, secretary general of the Chandigarh Press Club, said the meeting would be the first of its kind. The journalists from both press clubs are considering whether they should cooperate to establish a media fellowship, Vinayak told the PTI.
Arshad Ansari, president of the Lahore Press Club, also said that the Pakistani government would grant visas for Indian journalists to travel and report liberally in Pakistan, the Tribune newspaper of Chandigarh reported January 5. Ansari said that Gen. Pervez Musharraf had directed the Pakistani embassy to grant the visas.
