Contact info for all the journalists who cover development in Karnataka, a state in India, will soon be available in a handy reference.
The bilingual directory is intended to help the journalists and development organizations in the region work together more closely. Communication for Development and Learning (CDL), based in the city of Bangalore, is compiling the directory. CDL is devoted to helping development organizations get their message out to the public.
For journalists in Karnataka interested in development issues, the directory will contain each journalist’s contact information, a biographical note, and areas of work and interest.
The directory, "Samparka Sethu – Karnataka Directory on Development Journalists," will be in the English and Kannada languages. The Charkha Feature Service, a project of CDL, is compiling and publishing the directory. Kannada is the official language of Karnataka.
CDL is inviting journalists in Karnataka who write in Kannada or English to provide the requested information to CDL by March 31, project executive Vini Gupta said. Photographers and cartoonists with a social orientation and with published work in this sector are also eligible for inclusion.
Gupta told IJNet that the directory would be ready for release in the middle of this year. She said it would serve as a useful resource to help nongovernmental and civil society groups work closely with the news media for advocacy and social issues.
CDL offers a range of media-related services to NGOs, specializing in the print news media.
