Greenpeace is looking for writers
Greenpeace aims to further enhance the voice of various campaigns in India and bring forth into the public domain those aspects of public interest issues that are inadequately or not generally covered by the media.
To enable better representation of public interest issues in the media on which we campaign, we invite writers and journalists to empanel their names with us and contribute their opinion and views on a range of issues. Greenpeace will share local, national and international information, facts, perspectives and opinions about the issue with empanelled writers and occasionally, when possible provide exclusive leads on developing stories.
The objective is to engage with and impact specific policy making through a participatory and democratic process in the country through agenda setting writing and the shaping of public opinion.
The criterion:
. Excellent writing, editing, and research skills and an ability to quickly produce quality, engaging, and crisp articles that leading mainstream media will want to publish.
. Superior writing skills in English and/or another major Indian language.
. A track record and experience of having written for top-shelf media on high profile and/or sensitive issues in domains that Greenpeace campaigns.
. Familiarity with online writing techniques including writing/editing for web and broadcast media will be a welcome addition.
. A firm understanding of the Greenpeace mission and a sound knowledge of cross cutting disciplines relevant to people, the environment and development work.
. In-depth knowledge of national/international trends, political-economic issues, and conditions and developments related to areas that Greenpeace works in.
. A good understanding and appreciation of the role of Business and Politics in the shaping of public policy.
Major Indian languages and Translations:
Greenpeace specially encourages writers and journalists who communicate in major Indian languages to participate in the exploration of issues in our key areas of work. An ability to translate the original writing from a major Indian language to English and vice versa is a valuable skill that is specially appreciated.
Call for photo journalists:
Greenpeace is known around the world for powerful images that communicate the story. We invite photo journalists to send in proposals for photo documentation on issues within the scope of our campaigns. Greenpeace refrains from being prescriptive and we believe that each photojournalist will bring in a unique lens view. Greenpeace will respond to every proposal on a case to case basis to co-develop the concept further and fund a project.
Compensation:
A standard rate of Rupees One per word will be rendered for each article on a topic that has been agreed. All writing and word count will be as per the style and requirements of the specific media where it is hoped that the piece will be published.
A pre-agreed translation of the original story from one major Indian language into another will be separately compensated at the standard rate of Rupees One per word.
Greenpeace will reimburse pre-agreed travel and related expenses that may be necessitated for the development of the story for journeys up to 500 kms by overnight train from the writer's base station.
