A case has been registered and one of the accused arrested. Efforts are on to establish the identity of the other. The journalist, who works for a Haridwar-based publication in Uttarakhand, had been assigned by her editor to do a report on Vindhyachal. She had reached the temple town on Wednesday.

The journalist had gone to perform prayers and gather information about Ashtbhuja temple near Vindhyachal temple in the evening. While she was returning at around 8.30 pm, two men sitting in a Scorpio in the area forcibly pulled her inside. They took the vehicle to a secluded place, where they took turns raping her. The women lodged a formal complaint with the Vindhyachal police station against unidentified persons following which a case of abduction-cum-gangrape was registered. The victim was also sent for medical examination. The report is awaited.
