A journalist of newswire Indo-Asian News Service (IANS) has won the prestigious United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Laadli Media Award for Gender Sensitivity for reportage on women's issues.
Azera Parveen Rahman, principal correspondent with IANS, got the Most Promising Young Woman Journalist award for the year 2007. She was among 31 other awardees in the northern region.
Rahman was given the award at a function held at the Chinmaya Mission Auditorium in south Delhi by Nobuko Horibe, director of the UNFPA (Asia Pacific), and Ranjana Kumari, director of Centre for Social Research.
The awards are instituted by NGO Population First with support of UNFPA.
Laadli - a girl child campaign by Population First - focuses on creating awareness about the falling sex ratio with the objective of trying to change mindset of people who undervalue the girl child.
