Journalist, wife hacked to death in city house in Bangladesh

A senior journalist of a daily and his wife were murdered as the police recovered the bodies from their Purana Paltan residence in capital Dhaka on Friday, according to Financial Express newspaper.

The victims were identified as Forhad Khan (60) and his wife Rahima Khatun (50). Forhad was the joint news editor of Dainik Janata and also the president of Bangladesh Writers' (Lekhok) Association, said Nasiruddin, a sub-inspector of Paltan Police Station.

"We recovered their blood-stained bodies at about 5:45pm after breaking open the door of the house as no one responded from inside after repeated calls," the police officer said, adding that they sent the bodies to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. He said miscreants might have hacked them to death as they found cut injuries in the bodies. Reason behind the murders could not yet be ascertained, he said.

The officer-in-charge of the police station suspected that the couple might have been killed by robbers as furniture of the house were found scattered. "We're investigating the matter," the OC said

Abdus Samad Khan, younger brother of the newsman, said his elder his brother wife and brother's went to sleep at about 11:00pm Thursday night and since then they did not respond. "I came to the house in the afternoon as I did not get any response over telephone, and found the door of the bedroom locked from outside, and called the police," he said.
