Journalist shot dead in Chhattisgarh

A 35-year-old local journalist was shot dead by unidentified persons in the district in the wee hours Monday, police said.

The incident occurred when Sushil Pathak, a journalist with Dainik Bhaskar, was returning home from work at around 0200 hours, they said. Pathak had parked his car in a nearby street and decided to walk down to his house when the assailants fired at him before fleeing, the police said.

Pathak''s family was informed about the incident by another journalist, who found him lying on the street in a pool of blood, after which he was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital but was declared brought dead.

According to police, the assailants fired four bullets on Pathak''s head and chest. Police said they are enquiring from Pathak''s family whether he had a personal enmity with anyone. A probe is going on and attempts are being made to identify and nab the culprits, police said.

Condemning the incident, Bilaspur Press Club president Sashikant Konher said the Journalists from Bilaspur were planning to organise a dharna, demanding immediate arrest of those involved in the crime.
