A reporter cum camera-man of Sun TV and his friend were attacked reportedly by activists of Kongu Mennetra Kazhagam (KMK) at Oodanilai near Erode while covering a function in connection the death anniversary of freedom fighter Deeran Chinnamalai.
The reporter Gunasekaran, in his complaint, said both of them went to Oodanilai to cover the function in a car. Prior to their entry, there was a fracas between Kongu Youth Peravai and Kongu Mennetra Kazhagam (KMK) activists.
Around 7 pm, some KMK volunteers damaged vehicles parked in the area. When he went to the spot, about 10 to 15 of them surrounded his car and demanded that he identify himself.
Though he showed his identification card and told them he had come to cover the function, he and his friend were dragged out and beaten up, while his video camera snatched. They then pushed the car onto a field, damaging it. Gunasekaran said he informed other reporters about the incident, who rushed to the spot and got his friend admitted to a hospital.
