The Kerala High court on Monday criticised a section of the media for publishing and telecasting "wrong" reports regarding court proceedings. The observations were made by a division bench, comprising Justice CN Ramachandran Nair and Justice PS Gopinathan, while considering a review petition filed by the state government against the judgment prohibiting conducting roadside meetings.
The bench said some media had published false reports regarding court proceedings and had attributed certain remarks to the court, which were never made. The bench said it had never made any adverse remarks about the Additional Secretary who filed the review petition.
Some media print and television had published and telecast "misleading" reports and made highly placed politicians to offer comments on non existing facts, the bench held. The media, by publishing and telecasting false reports, had transgressed limits and tried to mislead the public, the court observed. The bench warned media to be more responsible and correct while reporting court proceedings.
