The editor of privately-owned twice-weekly newspaper L'interprète was abducted by unidentified armed men near a bus stop in the Kinshasa neighbourhood of Masina on March 7, according to delayed reports received by Journaliste en danger (JED).
Editor Nsimba Embete Ponte is being held in a secret location and the official motives for his arrest remain unknown.
According to information obtained by JED through his family, the journalist had received threats following the publication of a series of articles about the health status of President Joseph Kabila in the newspaper issue on February 29.
JED is urging the government to reveal the location of Embete Ponte's detention as well as the official reasons for his arrest. Should the arrest be work related, JED is demanding that it be deferred to the appropriate judge.
