Swedish reporter fined for squirting PM

A Swedish woman who squirted water in the prime minister's face in a fake interview for a TV show has been fined 20,000 kronor ($A3,500) for the prank.

The Stockholm District Court fined Hanna Wilenius for recklessly pulling the close-up prank on Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt, despite the risk of it being misinterpreted as a real attack, Swedish news agency TT reported.

She was also ordered to pay her own legal costs, amounting to about 23,000 kronor ($A4,000). Her lawyer, Percy Bratt, said his client may appeal the verdict.

In May, Wilenius surprised the prime minister at a Stockholm movie theatre by pretending to prepare for an interview.

When nearing Reinfeldt, she stretched out a microphone with a hidden squirt gun and sprayed water in his face before security guards apprehended her.

The prank was supposed to be part of a comedy show that poked fun at celebrities, but was pulled after the incident with Reinfeldt.

Wilenius was widely criticised in Swedish media for her action, which many found was in bad taste in light of previous attacks on Swedish politicians.

Prime Minister Olof Palme was gunned down on his way home from a movie theatre in 1986 and Foreign Minister Anna Lindh was stabbed to death in 2003 in a Stockholm department store. Neither had bodyguards when they were attacked.
