Reporter maintains innocence after prank against prime minister

Stockholm - A reporter who recently subjected Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt to a wet practical joke at a film premiere faces possible charges but maintains her innocence, reports said Thursday. Reinfeldt was attending the gala premier of Pirates of the Caribbean with his two sons in May when a reporter hired by one of Swedish broadcaster SVT's production companies sprayed water on him with a fake microphone.

The prime minister did not press charges, but the security police filed a complaint that resulted in the ongoing probe.

Stockholm daily Expressen's online edition said that both the reporter and the prime minister have been interviewed by prosecutor Ronnie Jacobsson.

The reporter has rejected the charges of possibly violating Reinfeldt's privacy saying "I don't think it is a crime to joke with people," she said according to Expressen.

Jacobsson, who was unavailable for comment, was quoted as saying that a decision to possibly charge the reporter was not likely until the autumn.

Swedish public broadcaster SVT has earlier issued a public apology to Reinfeldt.

The footage was to be used for a planned comedy series, which has been scrapped after several other complaints.

The concept was to subject personalities to an unpleasant incident and later interview them about their feelings.
