£300k writ for the BBC

AFC Bournemouth boss Kevin Bond is suing the BBC for a massive amount of compensation after he lost his job with Newcastle as a result of the Panorama bungs programme shown last September.

He is suing the BBC for more than £300,000 over the Panorama affair. Bond claims that the BBC's reporting in the Panorama Bungs programme led to him being sacked from Newcastle.

The 41-page writ issued at the High Court says "The publications have had a catastrophic effect on the claimant. Until September 2006 he had an excellent reputation and had never been the subject of any disciplinary sanction or investigation. On 25 September 2006 he was sacked as assistant manager of Newcastle United FC, purportedly as a result of the broadcast, which compounded the distress and embarrassment caused by the broadcast. On 11 October he secured a new job as manager of AFC Bournemouth. However, the move from a Premiership club to a lower league club has resulted in the claimant accepting a substantially reduced salary at a far less prestigious club."

Bond is also suing Newcastle for breach of contract.
