CHICAGO: Paddock Publications Inc., publisher of the Daily Herald in suburban Chicago, on Monday became the 10th charter member of the national consortium between newspaper companies and Yahoo.
The Daily Herald began uploading its local jobs to the HotJobs.com online platform. The Yahoo site has 1.1 million registered job seekers in Illinois, Paddock said. Yahoo reaches an audience of 4.9 million in the Chicago area, according to Paddock.
"We immediately reach a larger pool of job seekers, but a longer term benefit is to come as we integrate with Yahoo's world-class technology and reach its vast audience with our content," Paddock President and CEO Doug Ray said in a statement.
The consortium begun in December now includes, in addition to Paddock, the newspaper groups Belo Interactive, Inc., Cox Newspapers, Inc., Hearst Communications Inc., Journal Register Company, Lee Enterprises, Inc., Media General, MediaNews Group, Inc., Morris Communications, and Scripps Howard Publishing, Inc. About 225 newspapers are in the consortium, which will expand to include other joint projects in advertising, search and content creation.
