Andhra police in dark over motive in murder of TV journalist

HYDERABAD — The Andhra police have stepped up their efforts to resolve the mystery of the grisly murder of Lakshmi Sujata, a news reader at a local Television channel in a Vijaywada lodge. They have arrested three people including the brother-in-law of the victim.

A police team from Vijaywada also arrested two persons from Hyderabad, the police sources said. In Vijaywada, where Sujata Lakshmi was cremated, the police took into custody her brother in law Suresh Kumar, the supervisor and two employees of the lodge where her body was found in pool of blood on Saturday last. The family members were unhappy with the police over performing her last rites in Vijaywada itself.

However, Sujata’s younger sister, Pavani denied that her husband had anything to do with the murder. She revealed that a youth from Gudivada, one Chandrasekhara was in love with Sujata while another youth Chandu was harassing her. The police have also taken Chandu into custody and was looking for Chandrasekhara.

The police is puzzled by many points in the case including the fact that she was murdered quite brutally with 19 stab injuries and slashing of her wrist. Moreover, she had left the home in Gudivada on Friday, leaving the impression that she was going to Hyderabad to attend her duty. But she had left her job with the channel some time back and the family was not aware of it.

The police investigations have revealed that two persons had stayed in the same lodge in Vijaywada, giving false identity and Sujata had joined them later. The police is trying to establish their identity and the motive of the crime.
