Yahoo partners with seven newspaper chains

Yahoo Inc. said Monday it is partnering with seven newspaper chains, including the joint venture partner in Wisconsin State Journal and Capital Times in Madison, to share advertising.

Sunnyvale, Calif.-based Yahoo (NASDAQ: YHOO) said that advertisers who put job listings in any of the more than 150 newspapers involved in the deal will also be able to post them on Yahoo's HotJobs site. Terms were not disclosed.

Yahoo said the consortium also plans to work together to provide search, content, and local applications across the newspapers' Web sites.

The deal includes Lee Enterprises Inc. (NYSE: LEE), Davenport, Iowa, which has 51 daily newspapers, joint interest in five others, and more than 300 weekly newspapers and specialty publications in 23 states.

In Wisconsin, Lee operates The Racine Journal Times, The Chippewa Herald in Chippewa Falls and the La Crosse Tribune, and is a joint venture partner in the Wisconsin State Journal and The Capital Times in Madison, Beaver Dam Daily Citizen, Portage Daily Register and the Baraboo News Republic.

Other newspaper companies involved in the deal are MediaNews Group, Hearst Newspapers, Belo Corp. (NYSE: BLC), Cox Newspapers Inc., Journal Register Co. (NYSE: JRC) and E.W. Scripps Co. (NYSE: SSP).
