ISLAMABAD: A former secretary general of the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists suffered injuries when Federal Minister of Labour, Manpower and Overseas Pakistanis Ghulam Sarwar Khan’s guards thrashed him outside Parliament House, news reports said.
The incident occurred when the deputy editor of the daily Ausaf, C R Shamsi, requested the minister to solve the longstanding 7th Wage Board Award issue while he was coming out of the Parliament House’s gate No 8.
The minister said he did not listen to grievances outside the office and asked Shamsi to come to his office and apprise him of the issue.
Shamsi again approached the minister as he was sitting in his car. This infuriated the minister who asked his guards to thrash Shamsi.
One of the three guards started hitting Shamsi in the face. When a man came to Shamsi’s rescue, the guards also attacked him.
Shamsi’s eardrum was damaged badly in the attack and the man who tried to rescue him suffered fractures to two fingers of his left hand.
Both the injured were shifted to the Federal Government Services Hospital for medico-legal certificate. The Station House Officer of the Secretariat police said a case would be lodged against the minister after the medico-legal report.
