Srinagar, May 13: Despite assurances by defence spokesman, Greater Kashmir’s Kupwara reporter was once again harassed by Army authorities for reporting from the spot the molestation of a woman and subsequent demonstrations and firing by Rashtriya Rifles soldiers of 30 RR in Aishpora, Handwara on Friday.
The testimonies of the protesters reported were narrated by the people to Superintendent of Police Handwara, and the reporter just jotted them down. Army’s version of the incident was carried in full and mentioned in the sub-heading itself.
An Army officer identifying himself as the officiating commander of 7 Sector RR telephoned the reporter on Saturday, accusing him "of tarnishing the image of Army, a respectable institution."
Almost all the news agencies and newspapers had reported the molestation incident.
