CHINA'S digest Reader has seen circulation surpass 10 million in April and the twice-monthly periodical remains the country's most widely read magazine.
"We are optimistic of expanding circulation as Reader still has great potential in a vast number of small cities and schools across the country as well as in the overseas market," said Peng Changcheng, the magazine's editor-in-chief.
First published in 1981, Reader has ranked among the top 10 in circulation among Chinese magazines for 13 consecutive years. The periodical entered the North American market in 2004.
Reader ranked fourth among magazines worldwide in terms of circulation in 2004. Reader's Digest, National Geographic and Time, all published in the United States, were the top three according to the International Federation of the Periodical Press.
Known for its high quality articles and heart-warming human interest pieces, Reader also publishes stories by some of its readers.
The magazine was originally named Duzhe Wenzhai, or Reader's Digest, which resulted in a copyright dispute with US-based Reader's Digest.
In 1993, the Chinese magazine changed its name to Reader, ending the year-long legal dispute.
