Jammu: The Rajouri Police has arrested a local journalist and booked him under section 153 RPC for provoking the public.
According to the sources, a person approached Shafiq Mir, reporter of Indian Express and chief editor of Kashmir Watch (Weekly) to publish some objectionable advertisement in his weekly. When Shafiq refused to publish the said advertisement the person approached another local paper namely Today’s Refresher. The advertisement, the source added, had appeared in the weekly four-five days back.
Describing the advertisement as objectionable and provocative and hurting the religious sentiments of Muslim community, Rajouri police arrested the said person and later on the police also arrested Shafiq saying that his arrest is only for the precautionary measures. Later police charged Shafiq under section 153 RPC for provoking the public sentiments.
The police presented the journalist in the court, which send Shafiq in judicial remand, the source added.
