Brussels: Luv Puri, the Jammu-based journalist for The Hindu, has been awarded the European Union’s Natali Prize for articles on human rights and democracy.
Puri, 26, won the third prize for his article published in The Hindu, "In an alien land". The story was a poignant account of two Pakistani boys who had crossed the India-Pakistan border and had landed in the Kot Bhalwal Jail with a group of terrorists.
"I wanted to highlight that, well, there has been animosity which exists between the two counties and this issue of repatriation should be handled strictly from a humanitarian perspective," Puri told INEP after the glittering award ceremony at the Salvoy Bibliotheque on Friday.
Speaking about his award, he said: "This inspires you to continue your work keeping in mind respect for human rights and democracy. India is known for its democracy."
