NEW DELHI: A Delhi court on Saturday granted bail to Vijay Dixit, publisher of Senior Media Limited, who was arrested for publishing cartoons depicting Prophet Mohammed in a periodical brought out by the company.

Metropolitan Magistrate Chandra Shekhar granted bail to Dixit, whose group brings out the fortnightly magazine 'Senior India', on his furnishing a bail bond of Rs 50,000 with one surety of like amount.

He was arrested on February 23 by the Defence Colony Police in south Delhi for publication of objectionable material that could incite violence.

Alok Tomar, the Editor of the magazine, who was arrested on similar charges on February 22, remains in judicial custody. Arguments on Tomar's bail plea will continue on February 27.

The cartoons, which first appeared in a Danish newspaper, have caused outrage among Muslims and led to violent protests in many countries.
