Journalists from various media organisations here today took out a 'silent morcha' to the divisional commissionerate to protest assaults on scribes in the city and demand action against the accused and compensation to the victims.
The morcha of 400-odd scribes, led by senior journalist and Executive Editor of Sakal Gopalrao Sakrikar, Saamna's Assistant Editor Dhananjay Lambe and others began at 1200 hrs from Paithan gate and passed through Gulmandi, Sarafa and Citichowk localities.
A delegation comprising editors and office-bearers of the Patrakar Sangh met Divisional Commissioner Krishna Bhoge and handed him a memorandum listing their demands, including immediate arrest of the corporator involved in an attack on local daily Saanjvarta's office recently.
They also demanded action against the accused who assaulted Sakal's photographer Chandrakant Thote on February 1, and also sought compensation for him as his camera was broken into pieces, allegedly by the state transport employees. Mr Thote was badly injured in the attack, and was later admitted to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).
Mr Bhoge assured the delegation of stringent action against the accused and promised that their safety would be taken care of.
