(Rocklin, Calif.) www.PeaceCartoon.com is promoting an alternative to the rage and violence brought about by the recent publication of a cartoon drawing of Islam’s Prophet Muhammad. Cash and prizes are being offered to artists that submit cartoons that highlight peace and tolerance. The goal of the site is to provide an outlet to those would like to see a peaceful end to this controversy.
"The recent cartoons in the Danish newspaper have obviously struck a nerve" said Rick Davis, the sites creator. "It's painfully clear that pictures and cartoons can promote action. This is an opportunity to promote a different viewpoint, a different type of action." Davis had the idea to start the website after he learned that a newspaper in Iran was holding a contest for cartoons about the holocaust. "I think we have enough hate out there right now. Hopefully we can post drawings that get people to think twice before resorting to violence"
The contest is open to everyone. The website is seeking additional sponsors to donate cash and prizes to the artists. Corporate sponsors can provide logos that will be prominently displayed on the front page of the website.
