It is a sad day. Indian media from Mumbai and the Southern India made jokes in their editorials on Saurav, West Bengal (Indian State) residents and the Indian communists. They call Saurav’s attitude "Dadagiri" popularly known as a self-proclaimed leader. They allowed their borrowed Australian coach to show middle finger at all Kolkata residents because they support Saurav. They made jokes of the West Bengal based Indian communists of calling for a Common Minimum Program (CMP) on cricket to control the bowling of Pakistan’s pacer Shoaib Akhtar to Saurav. But they forget about one thing every Indian including the news media of India is shamed by India’s bringing in a borrowed coach from Australia.
Is India learning cricket for the first time? Why does India need a foreign coach? Is that where India’s and Indian media’s nationalism rest today? Saurav has his limitation. He should play better and score runs for India. But is it really strange for West Bengal to support India’s best ever Cricket Captain from Bengal when he had a bad patch in his form? Was it fair to make jokes of all Bengalis in India including calling Communist Party of India (Marxist) calling them Communist Party of Bengal-Marxist?
It is shame that India has to bring in a foreign coach. Where is India’s Kapil Dev? Where is Gavaskar? Why does India need a foreign coach? Why must Americans always tell Indians how to construct software packages? Why can India not create a single software product in India and sell it in the Western world in spite of the fact India has the largest number of so called "Indian software engineers"?
Indian media should look at their own mirror. It is shameful to make jokes of Bengalis or for that matter any race within India. It is simply racist behavior. This is how Kashmir rebellion was created. This is how Punjab’s Khalistan movement was created. This is why India’s Northeast wants secession. This is why Assam and Tripura is shifting away from Indian main stream.
Bengal produced India’s best talents in every field including cricket. Let's us not bring in Tagor and Ray and so on. Let us not talk of Subhas Chandra Bose and how he was treated by Nehru and Gandhiji. West Bengal is the most discriminated state in India in spite of its largest contribution for India's independence. India’s Bollywood will come to a halt if every Bengali performer and technician decides to stop work.
It is time for Indian media to apologize to every Bengali in India. Saurav is not the issue. Issue is India’s eroding unity within diversity. The issue is India’s pride. The issue is india’s sad attitude and lack of nationalism and patriotism at all levels.
