ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has suspended PTV’s Chief Editor (Current Affairs) for imposing a ban on coverage of members of the so-called "forward bloc" of the ruling Pakistan Muslim League who are seeking removal of party chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain.
The prime minister responded when the members presented the matter in the National Assembly through a privilege motion and later called on Mr Aziz.
"The premier has suspended Mashkoor Ahmed Najam, Chief Editor (Current Affairs), for writing a letter to general managers of PTV centres across the country ordering them not to give coverage to activities of the rebels or invite any of them in a panel discussion," the group’s spokesman Farooq Amjad Mir told newsmen after the meeting with Shaukat Aziz.
Other leaders including Riaz Pirzada and Mazhar Qureshi were also present.
Farooq said the 8-member group is only whistle blowers who would swell in ranks once the president grants their request for a meeting.
