Gorkhapatra style book to be amended: Prasai

KATHMANDU, Nov. 11: The Gorkhapatra Style Book will be amended to bring uniformity to its Nepali publications, said Executive Chairperson of the Gorkhapatra Corporation at the conclusion of the two-day refresher course organised by the corporation to its Nepali proofreaders on Friday.

During the training, different speakers said that there were different dictionaries and grammar books and, thus, different styles were adopted by different writers. The writings and reporting in Gorkhapatra and its publication were affected by these differences and discrepancies, they said.

Executive Chairperson of Gorkhapatra Corporation Indira Prasai said that the problem would be removed after making amendments to the stylebook. "This will also help to improve the quality of the writings in its publications," she said.

At the refresher course, Acting Editor-in-Chief of Gorkhapatra daily Vijay Chalise said such a refresher course should be continued to maintain the standard and uniformity in languages. Deputy Chief Editor of the daily Ramesh Tiwari said that sufficient budget should be allocated for human resource development, career development and training.

Similarly, Deputy Executive Editor Shiva Prasad Bhattarai said that the training would be useful to maintain uniformity in language and to improve the style and language of the publications of the corporation.

During the training linguist and senior litterateur Krishna Prasad Parajuli highlighted about the language used by Gorkhapatra and deputy executive editor Nirmal Acharya informed about the different signs used for proofreading.

At the programme, senior proofreader Triratna Manandhar spoke about different problems faced by the proofreaders. Nineteen proofreaders participated in the training.
