Jacob Mathew elected INS president

Jacob Mathew, Executive Editor of the Malayala Manorama Group, was on Thursday elected President of the Indian Newspaper Society (INS). Mathew, who was elected for a one-year term at the 66th Annual General Meeting of the INS in Bangalore, succeeds Pradeep Guha of Filmfare.

A trustee of the Press Institute of India and Research Institute for Newspaper Development, Mathew has represented the INS on the Board of the World Association of Newspapers (WAN) for five years, an INS release said. He was the first Indian to be on the WAN Board and was later elevated to the WAN Executive Council, it said.

At the INS AGM, Gulab Kothari (Rajasthan Patrika of Jaipur) was elected as the Deputy President, I. Venkat (Sitara Film weekly of Hyderabad) as Vice-president and Mahendra Mohan Gupta as Honorary Treasurer, the release said. Mr Deepak S Raja would assume charge as the Secretary General of the Society.
