Awards to honor technology coverage in developing countries

An upcoming competition will recognize the year’s best coverage of technology issues by journalists in developing and transition countries.

Print, radio, TV and Web journalists are eligible for the 2005 Reporting on the Information Society Awards, organized by Panos London and the Global Knowledge Partnership (GKP). Application deadline: September 15.

This year's theme: "Where is the money for bridging the digital divide?" Four awards of US$1,000 will go to journalists who practice reporting that best analyzes the social, political and policy implications of new information technology projects or investment initiatives. The organizers also will invite the winners to the next session of the World Summit on the Information Society, scheduled for November 16 to 18 in Tunis, Tunisia.

Submitted works should have been published or broadcast between January 1 and September 15. The submission packet should include contact information, cover letter (in English, French, Spanish or Portuguese), plus the clipping, audio or video tape, transcript or Web reference.
