Fellowships available for media conference in New York

Journalists around the world can apply for fellowships to attend an upcoming conference on participatory media, scheduled for October 5 in New York City. August 22 is the last day to apply for the fellowships.

The Associated Press is hosting the conference, titled "We the Media: Behold the Power of Us." The event will explore emerging ideas about participatory media or citizen journalism, ideas which have been fueled by the exploding popularity of Weblogs.

The Media Center, based in the United States, is offering 15 fellowships to independent, nonprofit or academic participants from any country. The fellowships cover the US$695 registration fee, including meals and materials, but they do not cover travel or lodging costs.

To apply, contact gpan@mediacenter.org with the following: "We Media Fellowship Application" in the subject line; name, title and organization at the top of the e-mail; and a statement of no more than 250 words explaining the reason for wanting to attend.

The Media Center, part of the American Press Institute, is a think tank established in 1997 to help the news industry plan new strategies for digital media.
