Reuters spotlights crisis news

A new channel on the Reuters.co.uk news site has been launched to cover international relief efforts and humanitarian crises.

The World Crises section includes news on global health issues, conflicts and natural disasters. Current stories highlight relief efforts and recovery after the Asian tsunami, conflict in the Sudan and protests in Nepal.

The section is produced by Reuters' network of journalists and photographers around the world in partnership with Reuters AlertNet, a news network for aid workers.

"Disasters often only make it into the news headlines for a few days before the world’s attention moves on," said Alisa Bowen, head of Reuters.co.uk.

"This new service is designed to give our viewers a continual picture of what's going on and raise the awareness of humanitarian stories."
