Media boycotts Posco conference

A day after signing the deal with the Orissa Government for setting up a 12 million tonne steel plant at Paradip with an investment of Rs 52,000 crores, Posco's publicity binge in the capital started on a sour note as its maiden press conference turned out to be a disaster.

The entire national media walked out of the press conference on Thursday, which was scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. sharp, owing to the inordinate delay of over 40-45 minutes. What particularly irked newspersons was the fact that the Posco Chairman and CEO, Lee Ku-Taek, was busy giving interviews to two TV channels, leading to the delay.

The scribes, who had assembled for the conference, lodged their protest with the media managers of the Korean steel major and then staged a walkout as the Posco chief was not to be seen even then. Attempts by media managers to lure some newspersons by offering exclusive interviews with Mr. Lee Ku-Taek failed to hold them back.
