Cops assault television crew in UP

A lady reporter and a cameraperson of NDTV were on Thursday assaulted allegedly by some police personnel in Noida, on the outskirts of Delhi while they were pursuing a story relating to CBI case against new state Chief Secretary Neera Yadav.

The police personnel even confiscated their tripod and headphone and nearly seized their camera before the team comprising reporter Sunetra Chaudhary and cameraperson Pooja Arya ran away.

A case has been registered with Noida Police, Sunetra said. According to her, they were conducting 'Piece to Camera' (PTC) near the office of Noida District Office in Sector 6 when a man in plainclothes objected to it.

Asked about his identity and locus standi for objecting to shooting at a public place, the man introduced himself as Inspector Harshvardhan Singh Bidoria, Sunetra said.

He soon called a policewoman and two private security guards who allegedly manhandled the crew and snatched the tripod and headphone, Sunetra said. She said Bidoria wanted to know what story the team was doing and got angry when they did not oblige. Sunetra and Pooja later met Superintendent of Police who called the inspector but he was not apologetic.
