Ananda Vikatan has emerged as the largest-selling Tamil weekly. The average circulation of the weekly now stands at 4,30,534 copies for the period July-December 2004, according to the Audit Bureau of Circulation. This represents a 22 per cent growth over the previous half-year period.
Founded and nurtured by the legendary S.S. Vasan, Ananda Vikatan displaces Kumudam as the largest-selling Tamil weekly.
"This achievement has been a reward for the consistency and quality of the content of the magazine. In these times of dominance of the visual media, Ananda Vikatan has always striven to be contemporary and relevant in its content-mix and presentation," the magazine's editor, S. Balasubramanian, said.
Reacting to the development, the Joint Managing Director of the weekly, B. Srinivasan, said: "A youthful editorial team, in sync with its readers, a powerful marketing strategy including a high-profile audio-visual campaign unleashed in August last, backed by powerful distribution strategy, have all contributed to this success."
Ananda Vikatan, started by Vasan, founder of Gemini Studios, as a humour magazine, became a household name with its serialised novels, reviews of cultural events and witty comments on social mores and political life.
