Four days after the Shakti Kapoor clips stung Bollywood, India TV has now got a TV star running for cover.
Aman Verma, host of Indian Idol and star of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, has filed a complaint with Mumbai Police Commissioner A N Roy against India TV Editor-in-chief Rajat Sharma and producer Suhaib Illiyasi, alleging that there was an attempt to frame’’ him in another sting operation.
Verma’s complaint alleges that he was constantly being telephoned by a girl named Ruchi–Shakti Kapoor was taped with a girl of the same name–for the last several months.
A girl kept phoning him at his Lokhandwala house at Andheri and invited him to J W Marriot Hotel at Juhu,’’ Verma’s lawyer, Dipesh Mehta, told The Indian Express.
And though Verma refused, the girl persisted and said If you don’t meet me, I will commit suicide’, said Mehta.
Then, on December 17, when Verma invited her to his house at 4.30 pm, she asked him what she needed to do to become a successful actress, the lawyer said.
Mehta said his client had no physical contact with the girl nor did he offer her any food or liquor. After 20 minutes, as the girl left, Verma was shocked to see Illiyasi and a cameraman standing outside his house. They said we shall telecast it on the India’s Most Wanted programme’,’’ Mehta claimed. When contacted by The Indian Express, Rajat Sharma said he had no knowledge about the complaint". Illiyasi has termed the allegations as "totally wild and baseless... after the Shakti Kapoor expose, people who have committed wrongs in the past are apprehensive that they too would be exposed in the coming days and are therefore taking pre-emptive steps.’’
